Waste Utilization for Energy Production

In the recent years the emphases in the environmental protection policies of the EU Member States is moving towards taking action to reducing and fully utilize the generated waste. According to a study by the European Commission Environment, the biological waste (generated by agriculture, households and food) represents about 1/3 of the households waste or about 88 mln. tons in Europe each year. About 40% of this waste goes into the relevant landfills as their potential for power production as a renewable, or their recycling as compost remains unutilized. Transforming them into biogas, electricity or heat can significantly contribute to combating climate change. Read more in the article
